Research interests
I am passionate about solving puzzles. To me there is no bigger beauty than discovering a new way of looking at a problem and in this way revealing a previously hidden structure. It is ultimately this that drives me in researching physics. Especially, condensed matter physics has a lot to offer in this regard. Many interesting phenomena keep being found and most of the time new developed theory is very succesfull in predicting and describing them.
I think it is fascinating that, although the physics is not anything like what we are normally used to, we are still able to visualize , measure , predict and engineer it. This is what I got to experience first hand during my master thesis during which I modelled coherent coupled atomic spin evolution in a tunneling microscope while staying in close contact with the experiment which verified these predicitions.
I realized this is what I wanted to continue to work on. So right now, I am developing theory for tunneling microscopy in a joint PhD program with the TU Delft Ottelab.
